Making Molehills Out of Mountains
The feeling of being overwhelmed comes from trying to tackle the clutter as a whole.
For example, you are in the bedroom and clothes are strewn everywhere. The floor, the bed, the dresser, the closet… you do not even know where to begin.
I have a self-made motto that I share with every single one of my organizing clients: Making molehills out of mountains. 📦🏔️
Start with the bed by using a list of priorities based on what you need sooner rather than later.
Assess the available space and furniture in order to rehang, fold, and store clothes.
This approach gives you a clear foundation of how much storage you actually have, what you need space for, and how much you may need to part with.
You can also use this time to identify where else in your home you can create space for items that are suited elsewhere other than the bedroom.
Once the bed is cleared of clothes and possibly other items you can move on to your next priority in the bedroom such as the dresser or closet.
All of this is done so that if you have to stop mid-organizing yo can pick up where you left off without having created a visible disruption.
The key is to break down what looks (and feels) like an overwhelming mountain into several smaller, manageable tasks, one molehill at a time.
